The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said on MondayduckylucknodepositpromocodesA formal investigation has been launched into a crash in April this year involving a VF8 SUV made by Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast that killed a family of four.
The accident occurred in Pleasanton, California. Police told local news media at the time that the car appeared to lose control, then hit an oak tree and burst into flames. A spokesman for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said Monday its Special Accident Investigation Unit would "document the accident and subsequent fire."
The local security department has confirmed that the victims of the accident were Tarron George and Linxi George, and their two children. They were not the owners of the car.
A few days after the accident, the owner of the car complained to NHTSA, saying he had lent the electric car to a colleague. The complaint stated that the owner had at least once experienced the lane assist function yanking the vehicle to the right while driving.
